How to install your first Project Archive

Follow these guidelines when installing a Project Archive for the first time.

To protect your data during transit, we encrypt the hard drive or USB that contains your archive. This means that before you can install your archive you will need to decrypt your hard drive.

Once you've done that, follow the instructions below.

To protect your data during transit, we have encrypted your archive. This means that you will be asked for a password during the installation process. You will have received a password through Aconex Mail. If you didn’t order the Archive, contact Service Desk for assistance.

Please note: For users working with an archive delivered before June 2016, you may see a system message that says the USB is corrupted – this is the encryption software at work! Please do not format the archive if prompted. See How to open an encrypted archive for more information.

  1. Connect the USB/Hard Drive and open the folder that has your project’s name.
  2. Right-click the Project Archive Installer and choose to run it as an Administrator.

If you do not have administrator rights for your computer, contact your IT department for assistance.

  1. The wizard displays. Click the Next button.
  1. Read the license agreement, and, if you accept the terms, select the I accept the terms of this license agreement radio button.
  2. Click the Next button.
  1. Choose where your want to install the Project Archive Viewer. You can:
    • Accept the default location, or
    • Choose a different location:
      1. Click the Browse button.
      2. Select the location where you want to install the Project Archive files.
      3. Click the Select button.
  2. Click Next.

Note: You will need to have enough room on your computer/server to host the entire archive.

  1. Click the OK button in the confirmation message.

  1. You can:
    • Accept the default location, or
    • Choose a different location:
      1. Click the Browse button.
      2. Select the location where you want to install the Project Archive data.
      3. Click the Open button.
  2. Click Next.

If a Windows Security Alert message from Windows Firewall appears, click the Allow access button to continue the installation.

  1. The download will start. Transfer progress is indicated – archives can be large and it may take a few minutes.

You can enter a different shortcut folder name, if required.

  1. When the download is completed, you will be asked for a password. You will have received it along with installation instructions in an Aconex mail. (This mail will be sent to the person who requested the archive.)
  1. Enter the password and click Next to begin the decryption process.
  1. Once the decryption is completed, you will see a list of the software packages used by the archive being installed. This shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. Once finished click Next.

Note: If a Windows Security Alert message from Windows Firewall appears, click the Allow access button to continue the installation.

  1. Once the download is complete, you will have options for creating shortcuts to Project Archive. You can:
  • Create shortcuts in the Start menu.
  • Create shortcuts on the Desktop
  • Change the name of the folder containing the shortcuts
  • Create shortcuts for all users of the computer or just you
  1. Choose your shortcuts and click Next.

Installation is complete, Project Archive will launch when you click Done (unless you uncheck the Launch Archive Viewer box).
