Create a placeholder document

Need to create a placeholder document for your project?

You use placeholders to reserve document numbers when you start a project. This means that a placeholder is, essentially, a set of data which a document will be attached to in the future.

You can either create placeholders or not, depending on your project’s settings. See your Project Administrator for more information. If your project is set up so that it is mandatory for you to upload an actual document, then you can’t create placeholders. Mandatory fields are shown with an asterisk and/or as yellow fields.

If you want to create more than one or two placeholder documents see Create multiple document placeholders at the same time instead.

  1. Make sure you have the correct project selected.
  1. Click Documents.
  2. Select Upload a new document.
  3. Check whether uploading a file is mandatory on your project. Mandatory fields are marked in with an asterisk and/or are shown in yellow.
  1. Complete all the fields marked in yellow.
  2. Click Upload.
  3. You'll receive a confirmation screen.
Make sure you keep a record of the document number. This is particularly helpful when you are creating placeholders for Supplier Documents requests.
