September 2023

In the 23.09.100 release, you'll find a new mail editor, inspection template attachments, daily reports improvements, and more...

This release is for:
  • Everyone who sends mail.
  • Project Admins who use cascading metadata or project field hierarchies.
  • Field admins who need to provide standard documentation for their inspectors.
  • Site managers who need to preview attachments in their daily reports.
  • Lobby Admins who need to disable Lobby accounts.

Documents

What's new

Faster cascading

  • If you upload cascading metadata or project field hierarchies you'll see a new option to Refresh Cascades/ Hierarchies.
  • Click this to run an optimization process for all cascading and hierarchy templates on your project. This helps your cascades/hierarchies load faster while uploading documents.
  • We recommend using this option if you have large cascade/hierarchy templates that contain over 20,000 rows.
  • All cascade/hierarchy templates uploaded after the September release will automatically refresh, but you can click this option to refresh your existing templates.

Limits for in-line editors

  • We've introduced limits while in-line editing large numbers of values in select list fields.
  • If you are editing a list of over 15,000 values, we strongly recommend you use the project settings screen to edit your values. You'll also see a message to remind you.
  • If your list has over 25,000 values, you won't be able to use in-line editing. You'll be prompted to use the project settings screen to edit your values.
  • This applies to editing select list values in both document fields and project fields.

Improvements and fixes

Helpful messaging while updating

  • If you're updating documents in the new upload, we'll let you know if some documents are unmodified, so you can take action.
  • The new messaging tells you which documents are unmodified, so you can either update or remove them in the upload screen.

Seamless supplier document uploads

  • After uploading supplier documents you'll remain in your supplier document process after the upload completes.
  • Previously you were taken to Document Register and had to click back into Supplier Documents.

We fixed some bugs

  • We fixed the broken 'search tips' link that appears when using wildcard searches. The link now correctly points to Searching using Boolean operators, wildcards, and special characters
  • Searching project field values that contain spaces now works as expected. Previously, filtering these values returned no search results.
  • Some of you received an error while creating placeholders in Bulk Processing. We've squashed the bug that caused this, and your placeholders will be added as expected.

Mail

What's new

A new-look mail editor

  • We're excited to deliver an improved experience while composing mail. This update brings many requested features such as:
    • A comprehensive table editor to manage your tables the way you want.
    • A style menu to set your text as a paragraph or heading.
    • Image properties to set the alt text, caption, and alignment for your images. Click an image to see the new image properties options.
  • You'll also enjoy:
    • A cleaner, modern interface with the top toolbar always visible when scrolling.
    • A three dots menu for adding subscript, superscript, special characters, links, and horizontal lines.
    • More styling options for bullets and numbering.
    • A color picker for font colors.
    • An organized menu for special characters.
  • The paste icon and right-click menu have been removed as these were not functional. You can continue to paste text and images into your mail using the standard keyboard shortcut (i.e. Ctrl-V on Windows or Command-V on Mac. Hold Shift to paste as plain text).

Viewer

Improvements and fixes

We fixed some bugs

  • Document numbers that contain round brackets () will now open in the viewer.
  • Now when you copy and paste an ellipsis markup, it will keep its border settings.
  • Zooming the page beyond 100% will now keep your markups in focus instead of blurring them.
  • That extra blank page is no longer included when you print a document.

Field

What's new

Provide inspection attachments earlier

  • Field admins can now add documents, photos, and other files to inspection templates.
  • This is useful to provide common instructions or specifications for all inspections of a chosen type, such as a safety inspection.
  • Using the web app, your inspectors can view the attachments as soon as they start their inspection.
  • This feature is not yet supported in the mobile app.
  • Available for checklist and PDF form templates.
  • Attach up to 10 files from your computer or document register.
  • You can attach files up to 100 MB in size.
  • For security, you can't attach .jar and .exe files.

Improvements and fixes

Preview attachments in daily reports

  • Now you can preview files that have been attached to your daily reports.
  • Supports PDFs, Microsoft Office files, and more, including .bmp, .doc, .docx, .dwg, .dxf, .html, .jpg, .pdf, .png, .ppt, .pptx, .pub, .tif, .xls, .xlsx

Looking back on your mobile

  • Daily Report admins can now see historic reports beyond one month on mobile devices.
  • Now you no longer need to use the web app to view your history on the go.

Packages

What's new

A new look for searching packages

UPDATE: The new packages search has been delayed to a future release.

Cost

What's new

Add direct actuals to previous reporting periods

  • Direct actuals can now be created in previous reporting periods. If you created or imported direct actuals, you can now edit these too.
  • The period column in the import template lets you import direct actuals for different reporting periods at once.
  • Any field in the accrual reversals can be edited except the data source.
  • Direct actual records can be deleted, except for system accruals.
  • To reopen a closed reporting period, uncheck the system accrual checkbox in Cost Administration.
  • The activity stream has been updated to keep track of changes to the previous reporting periods.

Improvements and fixes

New downstream contract actual columns

  • We've added downstream contract actuals information to the cost worksheet, control elements grid, cost reports, and configured calculated fields.
  • The new columns are:
    • All Downstream Contract Actuals Current Period, which is the sum of all downstream contract actuals assigned to the current reporting period.
    • All Downstream Contract Actuals Previous Periods, which is the sum of all downstream contract actuals assigned to all reporting periods prior to the current reporting period.
    • All Downstream Contract Actuals To Date, which is the sum of all pending downstream contract actuals + all approved downstream contract actuals.

We fixed some bugs

  • Your project-specific columns now remain in view when switching projects.
  • We've tweaked the excluded project list to help it load faster.

Insights

What's new

Reporting notifications

  • You'll now see a notification when you export a report.
  • This allows you to continue your work while your report runs.
  • Once the report completes, click the notification to download it directly.
  • You no longer have to click through to the report history to download your reports, but you'll still find them there.
  • If you missed a notification, click the notification bell to see them.

Improvements and fixes

Organization reports for AU2

  • Users on the AU2 instance can now enjoy the Hosted Name User report, and User details, Assignment & Configuration report.
  • These organization reports help Org Admins manage users across their projects.
  • Both reports can be accessed from the Insights menu.

Lobby

What's new

Deactivate a Lobby account

  • Lobby Administrators, you no longer need to raise a service request to disable a Lobby user.
  • Now you can deactivate a user account from the View Users screen. Select the user and choose Disable from the more actions menu.
  • Disable an account when a user leaves your organization or no longer needs access to Aconex and other Smart Construction Platform applications.
  • A disabled account remains in Lobby and can be re-enabled if the user requires access in the future.
  • You can disable your own account, but only if there is another active Lobby administrator in the organization.

We'll start the release on September 13 but it depends on what instance your project is on. Some updates will be released later in the 30-day release cycle.

All instances. ASIA1 and US2 will be updated after their change freeze period ends.

Release schedule

We take a staggered approach when rolling out features and improvements to each instance. This means that on the release date, you may not see all updates immediately. Features are progressively rolled out over a 30-day period, starting from the indicated release dates below. We can’t guarantee a global rollout of features across instances within the same timeframe. Features that are not available on all instances are listed here.
