Install multiple archives on a server

Follow these recommendations if you want to install multiple archives and are required to store your data on large network drives.

We strongly recommend acquiring a dedicated Windows machine to use just for archiving purposes. It should be a server that can remain active and online, as Scheduled Archive is required to be updated once a day.

  1. When setting up your first archive, we recommend creating a root folder on the C: Drive. Give it a meaningful name, such as 'Aconex Archives'. Then, each archive should have its own dedicated folder within that root folder.

Note: The only files stored in the C: drive should be the archive software files, the archive database and some configuration files. We advise them to be stored on a local drive as the performance of the archive will depend directly on the read/write speed of the drive. Storing the software files on network storage will cause the archive to perform slower and may cause issues.

2. During the installation, select the subfolder you created for your project, or create a new one.

3. Click the checkbox Store project files in separate location and select Next.

4. In the next window, select your large network storage device. The bulk of your Aconex project files will be stored here.
5. Continue with the installation instructions.

Recommended setup

The diagram below shows the recommended setup for multiple archives when using network storage.

The diagram below shows the setup to AVOID. It will cause the archive software to run slowly and it has been known to cause issues with the archives.
