By default, the bulk upload template has a separate tab for each Document Type. This helps you organize the information to upload. You may prefer to input all information on a single worksheet. While this is possible, the data needs to be formatted in exactly the right way for the upload to succeed.

1. Download the template (TemplateMetadata.xlsx) and open it in Excel.
2. If your document types have project fields applied to them, copy all columns (fields) used on all your document types into one worksheet. Make sure no columns are missing or duplicated.
3. Fill out all the required information for your documents in the single worksheet. Do not complete the Type field yet; leave it blank for now.
4. With the completed worksheet open, save the template as a CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv) file. All other worksheets will be removed.
5. Enter the document type information manually. Make sure each type matches how it's displayed in Aconex.
6. Save the template.
7. Import the template to Aconex.

You can keep zip files zipped when you add them to the Aconex Document Register using the Multi File Upload and Zip File Upload tools.

To do this, create a new upload profile and make sure you uncheck the Expand Zip Files checkbox.

When you upload your zip files using this profile, they will remain zipped within Aconex.

Superseding is the process of updating a document that’s already in your document register with a new version.

These documents have been assigned to you as part of a workflow. You'll need to review these documents, and either approve or reject them.

If you're already logged in to Aconex, open a workflow step from the My Tasks page.

If you've received an email notification, open a workflow step from a workflow transmittal.

If you want to reserve document numbers at the start of a project, create placeholder documents. Placeholders are 'blank' or empty documents.

Supersede candidates are temporary files that you can use to automatically match to an existing, registered document. Find out more.

In Aconex when you supersede a document, you update it. Find out how to supersede a document.

Metadata files contain information about the documents you're going to upload.

A transmittal is the way you send a document (for example, a drawing, a report or a file) to another organization. Find out how to send a transmittal.

Aconex doesn't limit the size of files you can upload, send, or transmit, so in theory, you can upload any file size. This applies to zipped and non-zipped files. However, some browsers, as opposed to Aconex itself, do limit the upload file size. See below for more information on browser limits. Also, if your bandwidth is limited, it can take longer to upload files.

• Firefox upload limits.
• Chrome does not limit upload file size.

If you’re unable to upload a file to Aconex because of its size, try uploading it with a different browser, or try uploading your file at the end of the day, when fewer users may be trying to access your site's internet connection.

Note: If you need to view your uploaded files in the Online Viewer, keep in mind it supports files up to 1GB in size. See Online Viewer guidelines, supported file types, and fonts

When the document, or the information about the document, changes.

Usually you'll update (or supersede) a document by replacing it with another file from your computer.

You can also supersede a document to update incorrect or incomplete information about the document. For example, if there is a spelling error in the document title, or if you need to add comments about the document.

Once you upload them into Aconex anyone in your organization can see your document. Find out more.

You won’t see anything in your mobile document register until:

• someone in your organization starts to upload documents, or
• someone from another organization transmits documents to your organization.

If you have email notifications turned on, you’ll receive a notification in your email as soon as someone transmits documents or mail you need to action.
