Move packages into a structured hierarchy

Organize your packages into a nested structure.

Hierarchies help you group related packages together to match your Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). This breaks down deliverables into smaller packages of work. Each package in a hierarchy contains its own set of documents, mail, and attachments. The existing limit of 1000 documents per package applies to each package in the hierarchy. You can move any package that meets the move criteria, regardless of its content.

Hierarchies are enabled at the project level. Your Project Admin controls this setting and decides the number of levels available in the hierarchy.

Arrange your packages into the required structure by:

  • Moving a single package.
  • Moving multiple packages in bulk.
  • Editing a package and choosing its parent.

This is useful if you:

  • Created a package in the wrong place within the hierarchy.
  • Need to re-organize or start a new package hierarchy.
  • Want to move a package to the top level of the hierarchy.

To start. you'll need to open your package register by double-clicking Packages on the main menu. Package hierarchies are only visible in the new packages search.

Move criteria

The following rules must be met to move a package:

  • You must be the Package Administrator of both the package to be moved, and its direct parent package.
  • The package to be moved must be Open.
  • The package that will become the new parent package must be Open.
  • The number of the package hierarchy levels in the package to be moved must be less than the package hierarchy limit set for the project.
  • The package hierarchy resulting from the move operation must be less than or equal to the package hierarchy limit set for the project.

Tip!

Moving a package will also move all its sub-packages. In Aconex, sub-packages are referred to as child packages.
