Installing the Local Copy Patch

Need to install or uninstall the security patch? This article will show you how.

Use the following information with the Download Local Copy article.

Prerequisites
  • To apply this patch, you will need to have Local Copy already installed.
  • Please ensure Admin user credentials are available before starting, as these will be required throughout the steps.
  • Local Copy 2.2 or newer.

Supported OS:

  • Windows 7.
  • Windows 10.
  • Windows 2008 Server R2.

Tip!

Note that the processes described here contain some improved security processes which disable Server Mode. This means that when running this updated version, you cannot remotely access Local Copy stored on another machine.

Installing the Patch

  1. Extract patch ZIP file by right clicking on the zip file and selecting Extract All.… Then enter the location where you want the files stored.
  2. Running the Command Prompt as Administrator, click the Windows icon in toolbar.
  3. Enter cmd, then right click icon that appears and select Run as administrator.
  1. Navigate to the extracted ZIP folder, see the example below. 
  • cd <PATH_TO_FOLDER>
  1. Enter dir and confirm the files are listed, this means the navigation is correct.
  1. Run the applyPatch.bat file with the default Local Copy folder as a parameter, see the example below.
  • applyPatch.bat "C:\Program Files\Local Copy"

Note: Update the folder path if Local Copy was not loaded into the default folder.

  1. Close the cmd window.
  2. If open, close any other Local Copy browser windows.
  3. Using the shortcut located in the Windows Start menu, click:
  • Aconex/Local Copy/Administration/Stop Local Copy Service.
  1. Right click and select Run as administrator, then click Yes when prompted.

Tip!

For Windows 10 users:

  1. Right click Stop Local Copy Service, then click More/Open file location
  2. Right click Stop Local Copy Service, then select Run as administrator.
  3. Click Yes when prompted, then close the window.
  1. Using the Windows Start menu shortcut, click:
  • Aconex/Local Copy/Administration/Start Local Copy Service
  1. Right click it, then select Run as administrator.
  2. Click Yes when prompted.

Tip!

For Windows 10 users:

  1. Right click Start Local Copy Service, then click More/Open file location
  2. Right click Start Local Copy Service, then select Run as administrator.
  3. Click Yes when prompted, then close the window.

Stopping and starting Local Copy from the .bat file

  1. To Stop Local Copy Service, in the Local Copy folder, right click the shutdown.bat file (windows batch file) then right click Run as administrator.
  1. To Start Local Copy Service, in the Local Copy folder, right click the startup.bat file (windows batch file) then right click Run as administrator.

Using Local Copy after installation

  1. To view your archives, open Local Copy using the shortcut located in the Windows Start menu
  2. Click Aconex.
  3. Right click Local Copy Manager.
  4. Select Run as administrator, and select Yes when prompted.
  1. Click View Jobs in the Local Copy Manager browser window.

Tip!

If shortcuts were not created when the initial Local Copy was installed, you can start Local Copy Manager by running the 'viewarchives.bat' file as an administrator, the file is located in the original installation folder.

Uninstalling the patch

  1. Extract the patch ZIP file. Right click the zip file, select Extract All... and enter where you would like the files stored.
  2. Running the Command Prompt as an administrator, click Windows in toolbar, enter cmd
  3. Right click the icon that appears, and select Run as administrator.

  1. Navigate to the extracted ZIP folder, please see the example below.
  • cd <PATH_TO_FOLDER>

  1. Run the uninstallPatch.ba' file with Local Copy folder as a parameter - see the example below.
  • uninstallPatch.bat "C:\Program Files\Local Copy"

Notes: 

  • See previous images for reference.
  • Update the folder path if Local Copy was not loaded in the default folder.
  1. You will be prompted to shut down Local Copy, do this but leave the ‘cmd’ window open.
  2. Using the Windows Start menu shortcut:
  • Click Aconex/Local Copy/Administration/Stop Local Copy Service.
  • Right click and select Run as administrator, then click Yes when prompted.

Notes: 

  • See previous images for reference.
  • For Windows 10 users, right click Stop Local Copy Service, then click More/Open file location. Right click Stop Local Copy Service. Select Run as administrator, click Yes when prompted, then close the window.
  • If shortcuts were not created when the initial Local Copy was installed, you can stop the service by running the shutdown.bat file as an administrator. You should be able to find this in the original installation folder.
  1. Before closing the cmd window, click any key. You have now successfully uninstalled the security patch and can close the cmd window.
  2. If open, also close any other Local Copy browser windows.
  3. Using the Windows Start menu shortcut:
  • Click Aconex/Local Copy/Administration/Start Local Copy Service.
  • Right click and select Run as administrator, then click Yes when prompted.

  • For Windows 10 users, right click Start Local Copy Service, then click More/Open file location. Right click Start Local Copy Service. Select Run as administrator, click Yes when prompted, then close the window.
  • If shortcuts were not created when the initial Local Copy was installed, you can stop the service by running the startup.bat file as an administrator. You should be able to find this in the original installation folder.

Using Local Copy after uninstalling

To view your archives, open Local Copy by:

  1. Using the Windows Start menu shortcut, select Aconex/Local Copy Manager.
  2. Right click and select Run as administrator, and click Yes when prompted.
