Create custom hotspots for your Smart Manual

Create clickable images and other custom navigation for your smart manual.

After you've created your smart manual, you can create custom clickable hotspots to enhance the navigation of the manual.

For example, you can use hotspots to:

  • Add a clickable image to the landing page that opens another page or image.
  • Allow users to click each level on a drawing to view documents grouped by discipline.

Tip!

We recommend you create all required hotspots for a single page at a time.

Create a custom hotspot

1. Open the Smart Manual application.

2. Click the Developer Tools tab.

You'll see the following tools to help you create hotspots:

  • Selector: Select, edit and modify a navigational hotspot.
  • Pointer: Action the hotspot as if you were the user so you can test it works correctly.
  • Save: Save your changes.
  • Inspector: Define what happens when a user clicks the hotspot. For example if you want it to open an image showing the building levels.
  • Open:: Open a second navigational page.
  • Draw Ellipse: Allows you to create a circular shaped hotspot. Left click and hold to draw, right click to finish.
  • Draw Rect: Allows you to create a rectangle shaped hotspot. Left click and hold to draw, right click to finish.
  • Draw Poly: Allows you to create a custom shaped hotspot. Click once to start and continue clicking around the border of the object. Right click to finish.
  1. Select a hotspot shape from the toolbar.
  2. Draw the hotspot around the required area on the image.
  3. With the hotspot selected, click the Inspector tool.
  4. Enter a title for the hotspot which will display as a tooltip when a user hovers over the hotspot.
  5. Decide what you want to happen when a user clicks on the hotspot. It can either open another image (such as the next landing page for the building levels) or it can display a list of disciplines to choose documents from. See details of these options below.
  6. Save all Changes

To open an image when a user clicks a hotspot:
