Create a clash test

Define tests across multiple models and design elements.

Tests can be set up to calculate the clearance or interference between objects in a tolerance range.

Once a test has been saved in a clash space, it will run automatically whenever a model is updated in the Aconex document register. Make sure you transmit new versions out to other organizations so they can see the latest model too.

Tests are visible for all organizations invited in a clash space and that have access to the models included in the test.

Create a test

Once a space has been created, the owners can add new tests into the space. You can create as many tests as necessary for a clash space. It is important to note that a test belongs to the clash space it has been created in.

  1. Click Create clash test to create the first test in this space.

Tip!

If a test already existing in this space you can create a new test or edit an existing one by clicking Manage clash tests from the three dots menu.

  1. Enter a name for your test. This helps the rest of the project understand what models and objects you are testing, the type of clash, and the tolerance.
  2. Select the type of clash the test will be using.
  • A hard clash occurs when two model objects intersect or pass through each other.
  • A clearance will show you the objects that are not intersecting but the distance between them is less than the tolerance you have defined in the test.
  1. Next, define the tolerance to determine what results are included in the test.
The standard unit of measurement for the tolerance is millimeters.  The tolerance includes the defined value and all values above it.
  2. Select a whole model or object types within a model. Alternatively, use an object saved search against a model and select the model where that search should be used. Note: Object saved searches must be shared to the project for use in clash tests.

Models and objects will be assigned a Primary or Secondary label depending on which side of the test they are selected. The primary and secondary selections will assign a color scheme to the objects clashing in this test. Orange is used for the primary objects and blue for the secondary objects.
  1. (Optional) To create another test, click the + button at the top of the clash test list. Alternatively, you can create a copy of an existing test by clicking Copy from the ‘…’ menu.
  2. Once you’re ready, click Save to store and run the tests.
All clash tests created or edited in this session will automatically save and run in this space.

Tip!

If any of the conditions in the test are not completed when saving a new test, you will not be able to create a new test or save your changes.

Once a test is created and has been saved in the space, it will take some time to process the results. You don’t need to wait in the space to get the results, they will be available as soon as the process finishes. When a test is processing it will show all possible results in a processing state.

As clash tests belong to a clash space, only the participants of this space will be able to see the test results. The test results will be organized based on the zone breakdown assigned for this space. The zone breakdown will organize the results into specific areas that filter results to simply the process.

Edit clash tests

Clash spaces and all their tests can be edited to reflect the development of a project. They can be updated at any time by the owners of the space.

  1. To create a new test or edit an existing one click Manage clash tests from the menu.
  1. Edit any of the existing tests and their parameters (name, tolerance, selected models)  by clicking them and making changes.
  2. Click Save to store and run the tests. All clash tests created or edited in this session will automatically save and run in this space.

Tip!

To create another test, click the button at the top of the clash test list.

Visibility of tests in a clash space

Access to the models included in a clash space is fundamental to the visibility of the tests for all organizations. All models used in a test in clash space should be transmitted to all organizations invited to a clash space.

If some or all models have not been made available for your organization you will see the following information in the clash space.

Active and Inactive tests

If you have tests that are no longer needed, they can be marked as Inactive from the ‘…’ menu beside each test name. By default, only Active tests are shown but the list can be filtered to show Inactive tests.
